Messages on a Mac is a very popular app among Apple fans. There are many reasons why you would want to update your Mac Messages app. The app has been around for a long time and if you are still running the previous version of Messages on your Mac, then you have to update it.

Here we will discuss how to update messages on a Mac. We will also discuss the possible problems that might occur while updating your messages app and how you can fix them.

Why aren’t my Mac’s Messages Updating?

Any differences between what’s on your phone and what’s on your Mac could be due to how you utilize them. Because your iPhone and iPad are always on and linked to the internet, they can sync far faster than your Mac, which you may turn off, restart, or put to sleep.

If the Messages app on your Mac isn’t synchronizing properly, try closing and reopening it, then wait for new messages to appear. If they don’t, you can try something else.

How Do You Update Your Mac’s Messages?

You can manually update your iCloud account in the Messages app if it isn’t synchronizing on its own. Here’s what you should do.

How to Update Messages on a Mac

  • Select Preferences from the Messages menu in Messages.

Alternatively, on your keyboard, press Command +, (comma).

  • Select the iMessage tab.
  • Make sure the box next to Enable iCloud Messages is selected.
  • Click the Sync Now button.

Note: The sync may begin immediately if you enabled “Enable Messages in iCloud” in the previous stage.

  • New things should appear in your Messages app after it syncs.

Why aren’t my text messages visible on my Mac?

If non-iOS texts (which appear as green bubbles in Messages) aren’t showing up on your Mac, change a setting on your phone to ensure they appear on all of your devices.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down to Messages and touch it.
  • Select Text Message Forwarding on the next screen.

Note: Make sure the MMS Messaging option is turned on on this screen as well.

  • Make sure the on/green switch next to your Mac is turned on.
  • Text messages received on your phone will appear on your Mac as long as this option is enabled and both your iPhone and Mac are signed in to the same iCloud account.
