If you have purchased a Google Pixel 3 smartphone then you might be wondering how to unlock your device. Now, before you start thinking that your smartphone is locked, let me tell you that this is not true. The process of unlocking your phone is very simple and in this article, I will show you how to unlock your Google Pixel smartphone.

If you forget your password, how do you unlock a Google Pixel?

How to Unlock a Google Pixel

There are a couple of ways to unlock your Google Pixel if you’ve forgotten the password. Only if you set up these choices before forgetting your password are they available.

There is no way to unlock your Google Pixel if you didn’t set up any of the other unlocking methods before forgetting the password.

Here are the several methods for unlocking a Google Pixel without a password:

  • Fingerprint recognition: Except for the Pixel 4, every Pixel phone has a fingerprint sensor. The Pixel 6’s sensor is built into the screen, while other Pixels have it on the backside. If this function is activated, you can unlock your Pixel by touching your fingers to the sensor.
  • Face recognition: Face unlock is available on the Pixel 4. If you set this up before forgetting your password, you can unlock your Pixel by picking it up and holding it in front of your face.
  • Unlocking the pattern: Instead of typing a password, you can trace your selected pattern on the lock screen if pattern unlock is enabled.

How Do You Unlock a Google Phone Without the Password?

A factory reset is the only way to recover access to your phone without a password or another unlocking mechanism. You can recover your phone after the factory reset if you backed it up before forgetting the password.

If you’ve lost your Google Pixel password, there are three options. Google’s web-based Pixel repair tool, Google Find My Phone, or the phone’s built-in recovery mode are both options. The web-based tool is the greatest alternative because it not only factory resets your phone but also installs the latest version of Android. If you choose one of the other alternatives, you’ll have to manually update Android after restarting your phone.

You’ll need access to your Google account to use Google Find My Phone, while the other two options require physical access to your Pixel phone.

How to Use the Pixel Repair Tool to Unlock a Pixel Phone

The Pixel repair tool is designed to help you update Android if you’re having issues, but it can also factory reset your phone if you forget your password. It works similarly to resetting with Google Find My Phone or the system recovery menu, except it also updates your phone to the current version of Android.

Google suggests backing up your Pixel before using the repair tool, but you won’t be able to do so if you don’t know your PIN or password and can’t unlock the phone. If you haven’t backed up your Pixel, you will lose all of your data when you reset it.

Here’s how to use the Pixel repair tool to unlock a Pixel phone:

  • On your computer, navigate to the Pixel repair tool site using a compatible web browser.

  • Click Select Your Carrier.

  • Select your carrier.

  • Click Get Started.

  • Turn your phone off.

  • Click Next.

  • Press and hold the power and volume down buttons on your Pixel until the phone turns on and enters Fastboot mode.

  • Use the volume buttons to highlight Rescue Mode, and select it with the power button.

  • Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.

  • Return to the Pixel repair website on your computer, and click Connect phone.

  • Click Factory reset and reinstall.

Note: A factory reset erases all of your data and installs the most recent version of Android on your phone. If you don’t back up your phone, you risk losing all of your images, settings, and other data.

  • Click Confirm.

  • Leave your Pixel connected to your computer during the reset and reinstallation process.

  • After the process has finished, you can restore your backup if you have one.

Using Google Find My Device to Factory Reset a Google Pixel

If you’ve forgotten your Pixel’s PIN, you can use the Google Find My Device page to do a factory reset.

If you utilize this approach, the Android version that came with your phone will be restored. You’ll have to manually download and install updates, as well as restore your backup if you have one.

  • Navigate to the Google Find My Device website.

  • Click your phone in the upper left corner of the site.

  • Click Erase Device.

  • Click Erase Device again.

Note: After you complete this step, your phone will reset, deleting any data stored on it.

  • After resetting your Pixel, you will have to set it up and install your backup if you have one.

How to Use Recovery Mode to Factory Reset a Google Pixel

If you have your Pixel, you can use recovery mode to make a factory reset. This mode is incorporated into the phone, and you can use it even if you forget your password or PIN.

If you utilize this approach, the Android version that came with your phone will be restored. You’ll have to manually download and install updates, as well as restore your backup if you have one.

Here’s how to use recovery mode to factory reset a Pixel:

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold volume down and power.
  • Use the volume buttons to highlight Recovery Mode, and select it with the power button.
  • Press and hold power, press volume up, and let go of both at the same time.
  • Select Wipe data/factory reset.
  • Select Factory data reset.

Note: This will completely delete all of the information on your phone.

  • Wait for the reset to complete before choosing the Reboot system now.
  • After a reboot, you can set up your phone or restore a backup if you have one.
