How to Connect an iPhone to a Mini Projector

Last Updated on by Daniel Lawrence

If you’ve ever wanted to see the entire contents of your iPhone screen on a big screen, you might want to try out the mini projector. There are a lot of different mini projectors on the market, but we’re going to show you the one that we use, and the steps we took to get it up and running.

We’re going to show you how to connect an iPhone to a mini projector using the HDMI cable that came with your projector. It’s pretty easy, and once you have an iPhone connected to the projector, you can then project the contents of the iPhone screen onto any flat surface.

How to Use a Wired Connection to Connect an iPhone to a Mini Projector

Your iPhone can transmit video to any device that accepts HDMI or VGA input, but it isn’t ready to do so right away. You’ll need an adaptor to connect your iPhone to a mini projector through HDMI or VGA.

Here are some video output adapters for iPhone:

How to Connect an iPhone to a Mini Projector

  • Lightning Digital AV Adapter: This adapter is compatible with all iPhones having a Lightning connector. You can connect your iPhone to any device with an HDMI input and produce high-definition video using this converter.
  • VGA to Lightning Adapter:  This converter is compatible with iPhones that use the Lightning connector. It enables you to export standard definition video to any device that accepts a VGA input.

Check the type of inputs on your tiny projector before purchasing an adapter. Mini projectors with VGA inputs are uncommon, although most mini projectors have an HDMI or mini HDMI input. In most circumstances, the Digital AV Adapter is the best option.

Uncertified adapters are available from third-party vendors, however, they are not always functional.

Apple cables and adapters are certified to function with both DRM-protected and unprotected video.

Here’s how to use a wired connection to link an iPhone to a tiny projector:

  • Switch on your mini projector.
  • Connect your iPhone to the correct adaptor.
  • Connect your HDMI cable to your adaptor.
  • The opposite end of the cable should be plugged into your projector.
  • Activate the iPhone.
  • If your projector does not immediately switch to HDMI, do so.
  • The projector will mirror your iPhone’s screen.

How to Wirelessly Connect an iPhone to a Mini Projector

Some tiny projectors come with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Typically, these projectors connect to your Wi-Fi network and broadcast video from your iPhone and other sources. The methods of connection range from one manufacturer to the other. Connect the projector to your Wi-Fi network first, then complete the connection to your iPhone by following the on-screen instructions.

You can connect your tiny projector to your iPhone wirelessly even if it doesn’t allow Wi-Fi connections. To do so, you’ll need an Apple TV with AirPlay or another streaming device, as well as the right app. Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, various smart TVs, and even some game consoles are among these gadgets. Some apps, such as Chromecast, offer screen mirroring to a single device, while others support multiple devices.

How to Use AirPlay to Connect an iPhone to a Mini Projector

To use AirPlay to link your iPhone to a tiny projector, connect an Apple TV to your projector through HDMI. Your iPhone screen will be mirrored on the Apple TV, which will then be projected to your tiny projector. Although there is no wired connection between your phone and the Apple TV, you must use an HDMI cable to connect the Apple TV to the projector.

Here’s how to use AirPlay to link an iPhone to a tiny projector:

  • Switch on your miniature projector.
  • With an HDMI cable, connect your tiny projector to your Apple TV.

Note: It will need to be plugged in and switched on if your Apple TV isn’t already.

  • Ensure that your iPhone and Apple TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Open your iPhone’s control center.

Note: Slide up from the bottom of the screen or down from the screen’s upper right corner.

  • Screen Mirroring is selected.
  • The Apple TV connected to your tiny projector should be tapped.

Note: If prompted, enter your Apple TV’s AirPlay passcode.

  • The screen of your iPhone will be mirrored on the Apple TV and projected onto your tiny projector.

How to Use an iPhone with Other Streaming Devices to Connect to a Mini Projector

Mirroring your iPhone screen with a streaming device like a Roku or Chromecast is a little more tricky. Instead of using the iPhone’s built-in screen mirroring feature, you’ll need to download a screen mirroring software that works with your streaming device. As a result, based on the streaming device you have and the app you choose, the procedure will vary slightly.

This is how the general procedure usually goes:

  • Switch on your miniature projector.
  • With an HDMI cable, connect your tiny projector to your streaming device.
  • Install a screen mirroring app that works with your streaming device.
  • Choose a streaming device.
  • Select Screen Mirroring from the drop-down menu.
  • Start the broadcast.
