In this guide, you’ll learn how to connect a PS4 controller to iPhone or iPad for PS4 Remote Play, allowing you to use your iPhone or iPad as a controller for PS4.

How to Connect a PlayStation 4 Controller to an iPhone

Sony DualShock 4 controllers are officially supported by the iPhone. Third-party PS4 controllers can also be used, however, they may not work as planned. To connect a DualShock 4 to an iOS device, follow these steps:

How to Connect a PS4 Controller to iPhone

  • If your iPhone doesn’t have Bluetooth turned on, turn it on.
  • Press and hold the PS button (the one with the PlayStation logo) and the Share button on the PS4 controller at the same time until the light bar on the controller blinks.
  • It’s time to pair your controller. In the Other Devices area of the iPhone Bluetooth settings screen, there’s a new entry. Tap DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller if you’re using a standard PS4 controller.
  • If the pairing is successful, the PS4 controller will display in the My Devices area with the word Connected next to it. The PS4 controller can be used with iOS apps that support it when it is linked to the iPhone.

Which iPhone games are compatible with a PlayStation 4 controller?

There are only a few iOS App Store games that work with a PS4 controller. This list, however, may grow over time.

How to Play PlayStation 4 Games on an iPhone

With the help of a special app, you can play PS4 games after connecting a DualShock 4 controller to your iOS device:

When wirelessly streaming PS4 games to an iPhone, graphics-intensive titles may delay.

  • Turn on your PS4 and make sure it’s on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
  • From the App Store, download and install PS4 Remote Play.
  • On your iPhone, open PS4 Remote Play and tap Start.
  • Please enter your PlayStation account’s email address and password.
  • Select Sign In.
  • The app tries to track down the PS4. This procedure could take several minutes. The program registers and connects to the console after it has been found. The procedure is paused and you receive an error notice if the Wi-Fi signal is poor or the connection speed isn’t fast enough for Remote Play.

Note: If your PS4 won’t connect to Wi-Fi, you can attempt a few different troubleshooting approaches.

  • After connecting your iPhone to the PS4, you’ll be confronted with the usual PS4 screen in split-view mode, along with a touchscreen controller. Choose a game as you would on the PS4 and navigate with the actual controller.

Note: For additional information on how to use the PS4 controller, see Sony’s official DualShock 4 Wireless Controller manual.

  • Rotate your iPhone horizontally to landscape mode when the game starts so that most of the on-screen buttons disappear. As a result, the game takes up the bulk of the iPhone display.

There is no way to totally remove the on-screen buttons.
