There are a few ways to connect a Fire TV to a projector. You can use the included HDMI cable, a VGA cable, or a Fire TV Stick with an HDMI-A to VGA adapter.

Each option has its advantages and disadvantages. You can read more about the different ways to connect a Fire TV to a projector here

How to Use a Projector with a Fire Stick

In most circumstances, connecting and using a Fire Stick with a projector is the same as connecting and using a Fire Stick with a television. There are a few complications that can arise, but most of the time it’s just a matter of connecting the Fire Stick, tweaking the projector settings, and then streaming movies, programs, and other content like you would with a TV.

If your projector has an HDMI input, it should function with your Fire Stick without the need for any further adapters. If there isn’t a lot of space on the rear of the projector, or if your projector is housed in a casing that prevents your Fire Stick from connecting to its remote, you may need to use an extension cable.

Even if your projector doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can still utilize it with a Fire Stick. You’ll need to figure out what kind of audio and video connectors you have and get an adaptor that converts HDMI to the correct input type.

The three most frequent projector inputs are as follows:

  • HDMI:  This is a long, thin port that suits your Fire Stick’s output connector. You can directly plug a Fire Stick into this port if there is enough room.
  • RCA:  There will usually be two audio ports and one video port on these circular ports. There will be three RCA connections for video and two for audio if the projector includes component video inputs.
  • VGA: This is an older connector seen on computer monitors. It features 15 tiny holes and is formed like a trapezoid with rounded corners.

How to Use a Fire Stick with a Projector

Connecting a Fire Stick to your projector is simple if it has an HDMI connector that isn’t already occupied by something else.

Do you use a home theater receiver to control your surround sound system’s audio and video? Link the Fire Stick to an input on the receiver, then connect an output from the receiver to an input on the projector, exactly like you would with a television.

To connect a Fire Stick to a projector, follow these steps:

How to Connect a Fire Stick to a Projector

  • Connect a USB power source to your Fire Stick.
  • Use the same power adapter as before. Even if it sounds more convenient, don’t connect it to your projector’s USB port.

Note: Examine the rear of your projector, paying close attention to the ports and the amount of space available.

Note: Is there no HDMI port? To learn how to connect a Fire Stick to a projector without HDMI, go to the next step.

  • Connect your Fire Stick to an HDMI extension cord if you’re short on space.
  • Connect your Fire Stick or extension cable to your projector’s HDMI input port.
  • Activate the projector.
  • Open the projector lens and remove the projector cap.

Note: This step might not be necessary depending on your projector. You can skip this step if your projector lacks a cap or lens shutter.

  • Your projector is now connected to your Fire Stick and ready to use.

Note: The image may be fuzzy, the wrong size, or slanted if you’ve never used this projector before. Make sure your projector is set properly to rectify any visual problems.

How Do I Connect My Fire Stick to My Projector If I Don’t Have HDMI?

You’ll need an adapter if your projector doesn’t have an HDMI input port and you want to connect the Fire Stick straight to the projector without using a home theater receiver. Look for an adapter that accepts an HDMI input and transforms it to your receiver’s suitable output, which is usually composite video, component video, or VGA.

If your projector only displays a black screen when connected to the Fire Stick, you’ll need to utilize a powered HDMI splitter between the Fire Stick and the converter.

Here’s how to use a Fire Stick with a projector that doesn’t have HDMI:

  • Connect your Fire Stick to a computer via USB.
  • Connect your adaptor to a power outlet.
  • Connect your Fire Stick to your adapter’s HDMI input.
  • Connect the relevant cables to the adapter’s outputs.
  • Connect the cords to the projector’s inputs.
  • Turn on the projector and, if necessary, remove the lens cap before using it with your Fire Stick.
