Xiaomi 10,000mAh Power Bank Pro: Design

There are all kinds of power banks to choose from – from the more mundane to the more elegant. This one is an excellent example. With a length of just over 5 inches and a width of just under 3 inches, this power bank is just under 12 inches thick and has rounded edges along its length. The whole outer shell is made of brushed aluminum, with the Mi logo centered on the front in the lower quarter. In roughly the same place on the backside are a clear caution sticker and the URL mi.com.

Power packs come in a basic grey plastic finish, with regulatory and input/output information printed on one end and ports on the other. Toward the left end of the device are four LED lights to indicate current capacity, a USB Type-C port, and a USB A port. Perhaps you are thinking “sweet, USB-C! USB-C! USB-C! However, the Type-C port is only for input and allows for faster battery charging. On the other hand, the USB-A port supposedly intelligently adjusts up to 18W, but more on that later.

On one end are the power check button, LED lights, and ports.

An 11-inch, white USB-A to Micro-USB cable with a Micro-USB to USB Type-C adapter is included with the power bank.

In terms of power banks, the Mi Power Bank Pro is definitely sleek looking with its aluminum finish and also feels very durable.

Performance

Connecting the power bank to your device is as simple as plugging in the USB-A cable. The power bank will begin charging your device as soon as it detects a connection.

The Mi Power Bank Pro only outputs over USB-A, but in the specs and manual, it states it can deliver 5.0V/2.4A, 9.0V/2.0A, or 12V/1.5A – plenty of power for fast charging. The most we could get while charging the Pixel 2 XL using the included and three other cables was 4.65V/1.43A, which was not enough for the phone to display “charging rapidly.”

Taking a closer look at the Amazon listing, you’ll notice the following: Compatibility: Intelligently detects and charges your devices. Including iPhone X 8 7 6 Plus, iPad Air / 4 3 2, Samsung S8 Plus, Google Nexus, LG, Moto, Fitbit, BT earphones, tablets, and more. USB PD is not supported. Fast charging is not possible.

According to this statement, “USB PD not supported,” which is why it won’t fast charge Pixel phones. It did, however, charge the Pixel 2 XL fairly quickly since it outputs roughly 6.65W. Apart from Pixel phones not supporting rapid charging, none of the other devices performed as expected. Future versions should also support charging from the USB-C port.

A double-tap of the power check button places the battery pack in “small current discharge mode” so you can charge Bluetooth headphones, smart bands, and other smaller devices. To exit the mode, press the power check button a second time.

Battery Life

With its high-capacity Li-polymer battery, you should be able to charge your device up to three times. After charging the Pixel 2 XL twice, we were able to charge it to 92% a third time from less than 15% each time. For recharging the battery pack itself, the Type-C port is used. Normally it can take up to 6 hours to fully recharge a battery of this size, but we were able to charge the battery pack over USB-C in just over 3.5 hours.

Conclusion

With the Xiaomi Mi 10,000mAh Power Bank Pro, you can recharge your smartphone multiple times and it has a sleek, solid build quality. You can easily fit it in your pocket, purse, or small pouch in your bag for easy access to power wherever you are.
